By Durães-West, a British contemporary artist living in Portugal, "Contrast" is an exhibition of paintings with shapes and colors that contrast, harmonize or cause disruption. The exhibition will open on September 8 at 6pm and will be on display at the Taguspark Central Nucleus until October 22, 2022. Admission is free.

In this collection of works, produced with acrylic and spray paint, the artist's influences are drawn from urban Lisbon, ocean and beach culture. His "Dark Matters", "Blue" and "What" series are based on themes that encompass depth, expanse, darkness, light, capturing the essence of a city at the forefront of innovation and the great contrast we face in life and death.

On the theme of the exhibition, the artist Durães-West explains his vision of "Contrast, the state of being surprisingly different from something else in juxtaposition or close association. As in life; light, dark, form, feeling, day, night, sea, sky; contrast allows us to measure experience."

With a wealth of life experience, Durães-West was born in the UK, grew up in Saudi Arabia and now lives in Portugal. He was a professional rugby player, founded a security company that provided services to the Saudi royal family, owned a travel company for surf lovers, was a sports coach and now coaches professional surfers.

These experiences are present in his works, in the modern, urban landscape of Lisbon in contrast to the Alentejo plains of cork oaks and olive trees, in the start-ups and technological potential of Portugal in the future or in the color palette of the ocean or the sky at sunrise or sunset between the contrast of day and night.

The painting exhibition "Contrast" can be visited between September 9 and October 22, from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 7pm (except Sundays and public holidays). The opening, with the presence of the artist, will take place on September 8, at 6pm, at the Taguspark Central Nucleus.

This presence of arts and culture in Taguspark - City of Knowledge is part of the MAU - Museum of Urban Art, which aims to promote critical thinking and contribute to the well-being of those who visit and work in the Park.
