Taguspark will now have a solar power plant with the capacity to produce more than 1GWh of electricity per year. The project in Portugal's largest Science and Technology Park, located in Oeiras, is being developed in partnership with Galp's new solar self-consumption company - EI - Energia Independente - and is based on the installation of 1,566 solar panels from technology company LG on seven buildings in Taguspark's Innovation and Technology Business Center, with a total installation power of over 700kWp.
The project foresees that 97% of the energy produced will be used for self-consumption at the Taguspark facilities, which will allow this business center to reduce its dependence on the electricity grid by 23% and avoid the emission of 251 tons of CO2 per year.
"The Taguspark project proved to be a great challenge, essentially because of its complexity, and a test of the technology that EI has been developing, which we call Eitech2perform, and which allows us to achieve a high degree of optimization and competitiveness. It is confirmation that we are able to meet the requirements of the most demanding clients," says Ignacio Madrid, CEO of Energia Independente.
"This project is another important step for Taguspark towards building sustainability. A path that is perfectly defined and that we will pursue without hesitation, including the thousands of people who work and frequent Taguspark's public and private spaces on a daily basis. Our Park aims to become a civic benchmark at European level. In order to achieve this, four pillars of action have been outlined, including, of course, energy independence. Contributing to decarbonization is an obligation we assume in order to hand on to future generations a more balanced, clean and environmentally sustainable planet. Our standards are higher the greater the challenges we embrace. We want to be the most civic-minded park in Europe," says Eduardo Baptista Correia, CEO of Taguspark.
