From July 5 to August 19,"Saudade do Imaginário" (Longingfor the Imaginary) brings together a group of works by the Malibu Ninjas, a duo of multidisciplinary artists from Lisbon who work in both public and private spaces.
With free admission, the exhibition brings together painting, sculpture, digital art and drawing. The Malibu Ninjas explore the importance of artistic expression and how it can become eternal and identifiable in the artist's work. They question the act of creation as a set of multiple decisions, which can be conscious or unconscious. They reflect on the process of deconstructing a work of art in order to understand the traces and ideas produced consciously, and the free and unconscious gestures that come out of the artist's hand.
The curator, Beatriz Palma, recalls that "the collective was created in 2017, and assumes the ability to adapt to conceptual and material challenges that affirm its artistic versatility. Through a surrealist, pop and psychedelic language, they create a body of work that highlights their individuality, inviting the visitor to enter a fictional universe that is based on personal and collective experiences and issues that we deal with on a daily basis."
In a humorous tone, the Ninjas invoke in their works a celebration of life and a challenge to the human condition, with the intention of dematerializing our conceptions of mundane forms and beings. This exhibition is not to be missed and is part of the MAU - Museum of Urban Art program, which aims to promote critical thinking and contribute to the well-being of those who visit and work in the City of Knowledge.
