The MAU – Taguspark Museum of Urban Art and the SNBA – National Society of Fine Arts have announced the eight projects selected for the 5th edition of the MAU-SNBA Artist-in-Residence Program, which begins in May and runs through the end of August.

The selected artists— André Lucian, Dauto Galli, Canivete, Inês Oliveira, João Gama, Margarida Fernandes, Rafael Raposo Pires, and Vered Brett —will have four months to immerse themselves in the creative environment of Taguspark and develop their projects.

The artists and their projects:
André Lucian – The project “Voltar à Terra” explores the relationship between the body, matter, and technology in a context shaped by artificial intelligence. Through this concept, he proposes refocusing creation on gesture, contact, and physical presence. André creates works in painting, monotype, and installations, valuing imperfection as an expression of the human experience in an increasingly dematerialized world.

Dauto Galli – Focuses on exploring the invisible layers of human experience through installations, photography, and video. Light plays a central role as both material and language, creating immersive and sensory environments. The artist investigates the relationship between body, space, and perception, proposing open-ended experiences that question the rhythms, tensions, and shifts of the contemporary world.

Canivete – The group explores the relationship between the artwork and the public, viewing art as a living, participatory organism. The project unfolds in three phases: exploring the space and the community through photography; experimentation in a workshop setting; and the creation of a sculpture. The project emphasizes intimacy, sensory experience, and integration within the Taguspark setting.

Inês Oliveira – Presents an immersive and participatory installation that explores the relationship between the body, space, and the audience. Through elements such as mirrors, real-time video, and sculptural objects, the work creates an environment that oscillates between the familiar and the strange, encouraging different forms of interaction. The research focuses on audience reactions and reflects on identity, perception, and self-awareness.

João Gama– Presents a pictorial exploration based on the collection and preparation of natural pigments from the Oeiras region. Using rocks and sediments, he creates paintings in which color and form emerge from the direct relationship between material, gesture, and territory, exploring the materiality of the landscape.

Margarida Fernandes – Explores the relationship between body, mind, and the unconscious, creating paintings that straddle the line between reality and dreams. The figures appear in states of transformation, traversing dreamlike and emotional spaces. Through a diverse range of materials, she constructs visual narratives that reflect inner shifts and an altered perception of everyday life.

Rafael Raposo Pires – Conducts research on the built environment through walking tours in car-dominated contexts. Based on these observations, he creates photographic works, video performances, and installations that explore movement, boundaries, and the transformation of the landscape. The project also includes opportunities for public engagement, fostering dialogue and bringing the artistic process closer to its surrounding context.

Vered Brett – Seeks to explore painting as a process of transformation and fragmentation. Through a layered abstract language, she seeks to create a body of work situated between dissolution and recomposition—forms that appear to fragment and reorganize themselves. This series of paintings will function as visual fragments of a broader internal narrative, reflecting the tension between vulnerability and resilience in the contemporary human condition.

Regarding the MAU-SNBA Artist-in-Residence Program, Taguspark CEO Eduardo Baptista Correia highlights the program’s role in building a more engaged and participatory community, noting that “the Artist-in-Residence Program reflects what Taguspark stands for: an ecosystem where creativity and innovation feed off one another.”

On behalf of SNBA, Vice President Jaime Silva emphasizes the importance of the partnership with Taguspark in bringing art to new contexts and audiences: “Art is an act of citizenship, raising questions and even anticipating societal scenarios, and Taguspark is a partner that shares this vision.”
