Carlos Luiz, Municípia
“This synergy that is created in a technology park is a unique thing”

When was Municípia created?
Municípia is a company dedicated to geographical information technologies. It was created 21 years ago, in 1999.
What does the company do?
We were created precisely to dedicate ourselves to the support and management of the region.
The geographic information process has four very well identified areas. Geographic data and the pure and hard acquisition of information that is needed for a given process. Consultancy and training people to work with this geographic information, the construction of spatial data infrastructure to receive these data – and then application development to create tailor-made solutions. And finally, something that is very specific involving taking advantage of the information that is generated to make plans and studies on a particular phenomenon.
Do these tasks require a lot of planning and equipment?
Without a doubt, they require a lot of equipment and have a lot of associated technology. From planes equipped with large-format aerial cameras to map large expanses of territory, to GPS to carry out field surveys, including property registers, water and sanitation, public lighting, or 3D plotting stations to carry out surveys through aerial or laser photography.
Who are your clients?
We work for the public sector, in particular with Municipal Councils. In fact, half of the Portuguese municipalities have a stake in Municípia. In other words, mainly for Municipal Councils, but also for Central Government, such as the Institute of Finance for Agriculture and Fisheries. At the international level, we replicate our projects among governmental bodies, including in Mozambique, Angola, or Timor.
Why Taguspark? What is the added value of basing the company here?
Curiously, we were involved in the inception of Taguspark. At the time, we conducted the study for the implementation of the park, the terrain modelling. We knew this land very well before Taguspark was built. This synergy that is created in a technology park is unique and creates additional competencies and work fronts.
